The “grottesca” comes from the definition attributed in the sixteenth century to the pictorial cycles that decorated the Domus Aurea, the Palazzo of Emperor Nero, built in Rome from 64 to 68 D.C. The discovery of the Domus Aurea, richly frescoed with extravagant and fantastic decorations, appeared in the eyes of the first visitors in a succession of caves. Hence the term “grotesque”. The intensive course on the grotesque and its styles is a full immersion of decoration ideal for learning the drafting of 2 different imprimishes applied on 2 different backgrounds (table, canvas and cardboard) and painted with 2 different techniques: acrylic, greasy tempera (similar to oil). The course dedicated to the grotesque and its styles will allow the participant to learn the preparation of the imprimiture and the application of decorative and pictorial techniques fundamental for a complete professional training or for a personal knowledge.
