Brocante and Vide Grenier of Perche (lower Normandy)

I just came back from a trip to Perche, Lower Normandy and Burgundy. I wanted to discover new places as my travels in France have always been in Paris, in Luberon (Southern France) and in Bordeaux and Perigord.

I was fascinated by the Perche as it is a place with uncontaminated expanses of cultivated fields and ancient woods. It is nicknamed the Nature Reserve of France.

Of course it is not an ideal place for those suffering from loneliness because the population density is very low. The buildings are usually ancient farms dating back to 1500-1700.

Typical for their large roofs of small leather-colored terracotta tiles and white lime walls. Their blue-green wooden shutters are very evocative.

Most of them are inhabited by farmers. But if you happen to go to Belleme, take a look at the window of the real estate agency in the country.

You will find very tempting buying opportunities. The purchase prices are very inviting. Driving along the road from Nogent Le Retrout to Le Theil you will find several brocante.

Each building welcomes 4-5 brocante so if you go you will be available at least one full morning or one afternoon.

You can find old Norman wardrobes, rustic tables and chairs, small poufs and bedside tables. For objects an endless range of kitchen items, dishes, vases and pottery.

For fabrics you will find mostly old heavy cotton nightgowns. Embroidered double sheets or large pieces of raw cotton.

For the Vide Greniers I mentioned in my previous post, it is definitely worth a visit on Sunday morning in Belleme.

Always check the date from the Tourist Office website before going. It is very large so you can also stop a whole day.

For lunch, go to the Brasserie ‘La Verticale’, I recommend it! Book a table in the square in front or in the internal garden.
