Course on ancient artisanal patinas

In the five days of the course on the ancient artisanal patinas we will discuss some techniques that will allow you to know in theory and in practice the different types of ancient patina. The different types of aggregates will be treated – Gesso di Bologna, Gesso Meudon, etc. – hot glues, cold glues. You will learn to understand when to use one patina instead of another. You will know a wide range of pigments. Their classification in organic and inorganic. Their origin and their artisan preparation. You will know and learn how to use natural resins and their dilutions. You will do the Venetian lacquering. Finally, you will perform relief decoration, not a real tablet as we will work with more ductile and easier to manage natural clays. You will perform the gilding with graffito and its coloration. Finally we will know the finishes: waxes and soaps and we will analyze the differences in your performances. Everything you learn can be used for imprimiture on boards and canvases. For lacquering and decorating furniture and in some cases walls.

Monday – IMPRIMITURA, AMMANITURA and MESTICA

It will work on tablets or frames of rough wood. Study and preparation of hot glues. Theoretical and practical study of aggregates used at least 4 types. Preparation of the three types of ‘hot pressing’ by analyzing their possible use. The imprimings performed will serve us to execute the other techniques in succession.

Tuesday – ORGANIC AND INORGANIC PIGMENTS Introduction, study and classification of organic and inorganic pigments. Preparation with grinding and joining to the binder based on natural rubber.

Wednesday – LACQUERING OF NATURAL RESINS Preparation with the appropriate dilutions of natural resins: SANDRACCA, GOMMALACCA ROSSA, DECKED TOMATO, DAMAR. Study and analysis of different preparations. Start of color lacquering for the execution of Venetian lacquering.

Thursday – Friday GRAFFITI AND DECORATION RAISED GOLD LEAF Preparation of relief decoration executed with clay. Gold plating or silvering with gold or silver laminas (imitation). Performing the graffiti and decoration. Drafting finish with natural resins and / or wax.

COST: € 780.00 for the entire 24-hour course consisting of 4 days by 6 hours.
