The intensive week on the patinas of furniture and metal is a concentration of 5 days to learn the techniques of cleaning, coloring, pickling, aging and final protective coating of wood.
The patina, in relation to furniture, includes a series of aging processes recreated ad hoc to characterize the furniture and express its existence over time. In concrete, the patina of a piece of furniture translates into a chromatic change in the natural pigments of wood, finishes, painting, lacquer or any other material applied to furniture (gold, silver, bone, ivory, turtle etc.), abrasion of surfaces (such as the wearing of a molding or gold); to the “craquelure” that affect both the wood and the other materials of which a piece of furniture is made.
The main techniques treated and learned during the intensive course will be:
Monday – “Shabby chic” PATINA with wood stripping, wood preservative treatment, coloring with vinyl tempera, shabbing and finishing with waxes and pigments; study, preparation and application of the final protective products such as waxes, natural resins, varnishes and soaps for the production of the patinas;
Tuesday – “lime putty” PATINA with artisanal preparation of lime putty and natural pigments and dyes for furniture coloring. Study, preparation and application of the final protective materials such as waxes for the execution of the patinas;
Wednesday – ‘SYNTHETIC MATERIAL PATINA’ It will be carried out on a superficially grated salvage unit. Layers of patina in color will overlap. You will learn the tricks of the trade to create stains, cracks and cracks typical of the wear of furniture. It will work in overlapping layers and cracks will be created with natural reagents. Everything is protected with adequate finishes.
Thursday – ANTIQUE PATINA “natural glues and pigments” on wood It will work on rough and / or recycled wood. The elements will be purely natural (not of petrochemical derivation) according to the ancient techniques of the Cennino Cennini Book of Art. You work with Bologna plaster, natural glue and pigments. The processing takes place with a superimposed veiling until an enveloping and advanced patina is obtained. The final result will come from the reaction of joining the plaster of Bologna without using abrasives or sandpaper. The colors will be dusty;
Friday – METAL PATINATION You will learn to know and use the products suitable for isolating, protecting, coloring, pickling and patinating metal alloys. We will use partially synthetic and partly natural products until the color and neutral aging patinas are obtained. The technique endorses popular to recover old chandeliers, sconces, chairs, tables and all iron objects in general.
All the materials will be provided by the atelier and all the work done (cabinets, frames, wooden panels, iron objects) will be owned by the participant.
On site will be delivered to the participant provided explanatory on the techniques and materials used.
Will be issued a certificate of participation. During the break you can choose to buy in the atelier or go together in a local area for a quick snack.
